The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG). This relates to a well known nationwide girl's youth group founded in 1922 on the principles of Faith, Hope and Charity, whose California membership peaked in 1966 and has dwindled ever since. They have longstanding rituals and practices devoted to the lighting of candles and lanterns, paying homage to "illuminating the path of spiritual belief;  offering light which guides one through darkness; the giving warmth and light to others". It is distinctly possible and lyrically indicative that our singer was once aligned with this group and that her lyrics express this.
